Pennsylvania does not add a daily overtime statute on top of the Fair Labor Standards Act. For a non-exempt hourly job, overtime starts after 40 hours in one workweek. How those hours sat on Tuesday versus Saturday does not change the federal math.
At $17/hour and 47 hours:
- Straight 40 × $17 = $680
- Overtime 7 × $25.50 = $178.50
- Week = $858.50
- Straight 47 × $17 would have been $799. The extra $59.50 is the time-and-a-half.
That is the live FLSA overtime calculator.
The same 47 hours as four 11-hour days plus 3 in California pay $901, because Labor Code § 510 also looks at each day. Pennsylvania does not.
Florida leftover used a different rate and week: $18 × 48 hours → $936. Texas leftover: $22 × 45 hours → $1,045. Nevada leftover: $16 × 44 hours → $736. Arizona leftover: $21 × 43 hours → $934.50. Ohio leftover: $19 × 46 hours → $931. Same statute. Different stub.

Both overtime tools stop at weekly gross. They do not withhold FIT or FICA. Overtime dollars are still wages. Employee FICA (6.2% up to the $184,500 2026 Social Security wage base, plus 1.45% Medicare) applies the same way as on straight time (Topic 751). This page does not invent a Pennsylvania income-tax rate.
Direct answer: $17 × 47 → $858.50
- Hours over 40 = 7
- Overtime rate = $17 × 1.5 = $25.50
- Regular pay = 40 × $17 = $680
- Overtime pay = 7 × $25.50 = $178.50
- Weekly total = $858.50
overtime hours = max(0, hours in the workweek − 40)
weekly total = (straight hours × rate) + (OT hours × 1.5 × rate)
Pennsylvania vs California on the same 47 hours
| Rule | How the 47 hours sit | Week |
|---|---|---|
| Pennsylvania / FLSA | Any 47 hours in one week | $858.50 |
| Straight time (no OT) | 47 × $17 | $799 |
| Four 11-hour days plus 3 (CA daily OT) | 4 × 11 + 3 | $901 |
| Four 10-hour days plus 7 (CA daily OT) | 4 × 10 + 7 | $867 |
| California 3 × 13 + 8 | Three 13-hour days, then an 8 | $952 |
Four 11-hour days plus a 3-hour day in California add 12 daily overtime hours (3 per 11-hour day). That week is $901. Pack the same 47 hours into three 13-hour days plus an 8 and California adds double time after 12. That week is $952. Pennsylvania still pays $858.50 either way. Run the daily split on the California overtime calculator.
What Pennsylvania still is not
- A daily 8-hour trigger. Four 11-hour days plus 3 are still 47 hours, so Pennsylvania still pays the same $858.50. The extra seven hours are weekly, not daily.
- A salaried exemption test. Being paid a salary does not by itself turn overtime off. That is a classification question, not this engine.
- Two jobs added together. Each employer counts only its own hours.
- A Pennsylvania withholding page. Pennsylvania has state income tax. This tool does not price it.
Salary vs hourly at a different rate: $25 × 50 hours → $1,375. Hourly take-home at $20 × 40: $800 leaves $664.88.
Not under the federal FLSA tool this site ships. Pennsylvania does not overlay California's 8 / 12 / seventh-day statute. Confirm your contract and any local rule. This page is weekly-40 only.
Because 7 hours sit over 40. Those hours pay $25.50, not $17. 7 × $8.50 extra = $59.50.
California pays $901 at $17. Pennsylvania still pays $858.50. The difference is the daily statute, not a tax.
