Colombia 14th pension 2026

The 14th pension (Law 100 of 1993 art. 142) is a June extra equal to the monthly pension, but Legislative Act 01 of 2005 (Article 48 of the Constitution, paragraph 8) capped pensions at 13 payments a year. Transitional paragraph 6 excepts only those who receive a pension equal to or below 3 SMLMV and caused it before 31 July 2011: they keep 14.

So the amount alone is not enough: a $2,000,000 pension caused before 31 Jul 2011 gets $2,000,000 extra; the same pension caused later gets $0 (13 payments). With the 2026 SMLMV ($1,750,905) the 3 SMLMV cap is $5,252,715.

Common mistakes

  • Thinking the cap is the only test: a pension caused on 31 Jul 2011 or later gets 13 payments.
  • Paying the 14th on an $8,000,000 pension caused between 2005 and 2011 (above 3 SMLMV).
  • Confusing it with the December 13th payment.
  • Using the labor IBC instead of the pension amount.

People whose pension is equal to or below 3 SMLMV ($5,252,715 in 2026) and who caused it before 31 July 2011 (AL 01 of 2005, transitional paragraph 6). Pensions caused before 25 Jul 2005 keep 14 payments without that cap.

It is 13 payments a year, even if your pension is below 3 SMLMV.
