401(k) Early Distribution Additional Tax Calculator
IRC §72(t) / Topic 558: a 10% additional tax usually applies to taxable 401(k) distributions before age 59½. This is on top of ordinary income tax.
if age < 59.5 → additional tax = 10% × distribution
else → $0
Worked example
$10,000 at age 45 → $1,000. Same amount at 59.5 → $0.
Related: 401(k) deferral limit, paycheck.
Exceptions (rule of 55, etc.) are out of scope. Ordinary income tax is not calculated here.
