Housing under control: it stays under 30% of your net pay and you still save something.

Your gross salary is not what lands in your account. This calculator deducts IGSS and ISR under Guatemalan rules and splits your take-home pay into housing, food, transport, debts and savings, with a chart included.

How it works

  1. Enter your monthly gross salary.
  2. Adjust what you spend per month in each category (you can leave them at zero).
  3. Get your take-home pay, your savings rate and a verdict on your housing cost.
Formula

IGSS = Gross × 4.83% · ISR base = Gross − IGSS − Q4,000 · ISR = 5% up to Q300,000 yearly, 7% above · Net = Gross − IGSS − ISR

Step-by-step example

With a gross salary of Q12,000 per month:

  • IGSS: 12,000 × 4.83% = Q579.60
  • ISR base: 12,000 − 579.60 − 4,000 = Q7,420.40
  • ISR: 7,420.40 × 5% = Q371.02
  • Take-home pay: Q11,049.38

Spending Q3,000 on housing, Q2,500 on food, Q1,200 on transport, Q800 on debts and Q500 on other leaves Q3,049.38 per month: a 27.60% savings rate.

Sources and assumptions

  • Employee IGSS 4.83% (IGSS Agreement 1118).
  • ISR: Decree 10-2012, employment income. The tax base deducts personal expenses of up to Q60,000 a year, of which Q48,000 need no receipts (art. 72); we use Q4,000 a month. Art. 73 rate: 5% up to Q300,000 of yearly taxable income and Q15,000 + 7% above.
  • Educational estimate of the monthly withholding; your employer adjusts in December.

No. It is an educational estimate using the cited current rules. For your exact case, check your pay slip or ask an accountant.

It is the 50/30/20 rule adapted: if housing exceeds 30% of your net, little room is left for savings and surprises. The calculator warns you automatically.

No. This breakdown is monthly and only covers ordinary salary. The aguinaldo and Bonus 14 have their own tax treatment.
