How to calculate EMPORNAC piecework pay in Guatemala: PDF, hours & 4 cases (2026)

If you work dock/stevedore shifts paid as destajo (piecework) under EMPORNAC-style catorcena slips, the PDF lists quintals / movements by type (ordinary, extra, double). Pay is not “the PDF total alone”: you convert to hours, apply your hourly rates, add the séptimo (seventh-day style add-on in this model), and optionally a period bonus. Below: the formula, four engine-backed cases, and the expensive mistakes.

Run your own slip now (PDF fill or manual hours: stays on your phone): EMPORNAC piecework analyzer →

Short answer

| Step | Action | |---|---| | 1 | Sum quintals by type for your badge/ficha | | 2 | Hours = quintals ÷ movements per hour (real contract divisor: 6, 7, 8, 10…) | | 3 | Pay by type = hours × your hourly rate | | 4 | Séptimo ≈ hour subtotal ÷ 6 | | 5 | Estimated total = subtotal + séptimo + bonus (if it applies) |

Figures use the same educational engine as Calcufast’s EMPORNAC piecework tool. Order-of-magnitude only: not an official payroll slip or HR letter.

Formula (calculator model)

Hours_type = Quintals_type ÷ movements_per_hour
Pay_type   = Hours_type × hourly_rate_type
Subtotal   = Pay_ord + Pay_ext + Pay_dbl
Séptimo    = Subtotal ÷ 6
Total      = Subtotal + Séptimo + Bonus

Reference rates in the tool (editable): ordinary Q12.55, extra Q14.04, double Q21.04. Change them to your ficha. Editorial check: 9 Aug 2026.

Educational estimate

This is a personal review aid. It is not EMPORNAC’s official payroll and not legal advice. Always reconcile with your slip and HR when numbers disagree.

Case 1: Ordinary-heavy fortnight + bonus

  • Hours: 80 ordinary + 10 extra + 0 double
  • Ref. rates: Q12.55 / Q14.04 / Q21.04
  • Period bonus: Q325 (optional in the UI; ON here)

| Line | Hours | Rate | Amount | |---|---:|---:|---:| | Ordinary | 80 | Q12.55 | Q1,004.00 | | Extra | 10 | Q14.04 | Q140.40 | | Double | 0 | Q21.04 | Q0.00 | | Subtotal | 90 |: | Q1,144.40 | | Séptimo (÷ 6) |: |: | Q190.73 | | Bonus |: |: | Q325.00 | | Estimated total |: |: | Q1,660.13 |

With few extras, bonus + séptimo can rival the extra-hour line. Turn the bonus off and the total falls to Q1,335.13.

Case 2: Mixed doubles (same rates + bonus)

  • Hours: 64 ordinary + 16 extra + 8 double
  • Bonus: Q325

| Line | Hours | Amount | |---|---:|---:| | Ordinary | 64 | Q803.20 | | Extra | 16 | Q224.64 | | Double | 8 | Q168.32 | | Subtotal | 88 | Q1,196.16 | | Séptimo |: | Q199.36 | | Bonus |: | Q325.00 | | Estimated total |: | Q1,720.52 |

Fewer total hours than case 1 (88 vs 90) but a higher gross because extra/double pay more per hour. Counting hours alone misleads.

Case 3: Same quintals, divisor 8 vs 6

Assume period quintals: 480 ord + 96 ext + 48 dbl.

| Divisor | Hours (O / E / D) | Subtotal | Séptimo | Total (no bonus) | |---|---|---:|---:|---:| | 8 | 60 / 12 / 6 | Q1,047.72 | Q174.62 | Q1,222.34 | | 6 | 80 / 16 / 8 | Q1,396.96 | Q232.83 | Q1,629.79 |

Gap: Q407.45 from the divisor alone. If you are paid at 6 movements/hour but model 8, you understate pay. The tool accepts any positive divisor.

Case 4: No PDF: manual hours

  • 10 ord + 4 ext + 2 dbl · ref. rates · no bonus
  • Subtotal Q223.74 · séptimo Q37.29 · total Q261.03

Handy for a single day or to spot-check one row before the full catorcena.

Rate trap: Q10 vs Q12.55 on 12 ordinary hours

| Ord. rate | Subtotal | Séptimo | Total | |---:|---:|---:|---:| | Q10.00 (guess) | Q120.00 | Q20.00 | Q140.00 | | Q12.55 (tool ref.) | Q150.60 | Q25.10 | Q175.70 |

Gap: Q35.70 on just 12 h: scale that to a full period and the error is large. Always use your ficha rates.

Manual vs PDF

| Mode | When | What it does | |---|---|---| | Manual | You know hours / no PDF | Enter O/E/D + divisor + rates | | PDF | You have the EMPORNAC catorcena | Extracts your badge rows (e.g. 000-A) into hours |

Money math is identical. PDF is an accelerator. Rows labeled “Review” do not invent numbers: check the file columns.

Privacy

PDFs and numbers run in the browser. They are not uploaded to Calcufast servers. Optional rate memory stays on that device only (localStorage).

Checklist before you dispute or sign

  1. Confirm badge/ficha and that the PDF is your period.
  2. Write down the real movements-per-hour divisor.
  3. Load your rates, not defaults blindly.
  4. Toggle bonus only if that period includes it.
  5. Read the gross with séptimo.
  6. If short, take the table to HR.
  7. For monthly take-home, bridge to Guatemala net salary and IGSS.

Expensive mistakes

  • Hard-coding divisor 8 when the deal is 6 or 10.
  • Ignoring extras/doubles.
  • Leaving bonus ON when it was not paid (or the reverse).
  • Copying a coworker’s rate.
  • Treating the estimate as a signed payroll.

FAQ

Sum quintals/movements by type for your badge, then divide by the contract movements-per-hour factor. That divisor can be 6, 7, 8, 10, or any positive number: not locked to 8.

The calculator estimates séptimo as hour-pay subtotal ÷ 6. Educational only; the official slip controls.

Yes. Manual mode takes ordinary/extra/double hours, divisor, and rates. PDF only speeds data entry. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

No. They are editable reference defaults. Each ficha can differ; wrong rates wrong totals.

No. In the tool the bonus is optional. Enable it only when that period actually pays it.
