How Does the Salary Converter Work?
The salary converter allows you to convert between different pay frequencies: hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, and annual. It's useful for comparing job offers, budgeting, or understanding your true earnings.
Conversion Formulas
Annual = Monthly × 12 Monthly = Annual ÷ 12 Biweekly = Annual ÷ 26 Weekly = Annual ÷ 52 Daily = Annual ÷ (Working days/week × 52) Hourly = Annual ÷ (Hours/week × 52)
- Hours per week: Standard is 40 hours, but varies by employment
- Weeks per year: 52 weeks is standard. Adjust if you work fewer weeks
- Working days: Calculated based on hours/week divided by 8 hours/day
Practical Example
If you earn $5,000/month with a 40-hour work week:
Annual = $5,000 × 12 = $60,000 Biweekly = $60,000 ÷ 26 = $2,307.69 Weekly = $60,000 ÷ 52 = $1,153.85 Daily = $60,000 ÷ (5 × 52) = $230.77 Hourly = $60,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = $28.85
When to Use the Salary Converter
- Compare job offers with different pay frequencies
- Calculate hourly rates for freelance work
- Budget monthly from an annual salary
- Negotiate raises knowing your hourly value
- Evaluate overtime by calculating your equivalent hourly rate
Scenario Table (40h/week, 52 weeks)
| Pay frequency | Amount | Annual equivalent | |---|---|---| | Hourly | $15.00/h | $31,200 | | Daily (8h) | $120.00/day | $31,200 | | Weekly | $600.00/week | $31,200 | | Biweekly | $1,200.00 | $31,200 | | Monthly | $2,600.00 | $31,200 | | Annual | $31,200 | $31,200 |
The table shows how the same annual salary appears at each frequency. Notice that biweekly payments do not match monthly ones: a biweekly paycheck is equivalent to 26 payments per year, while semi-monthly pay produces 24. That is why a $2,600 monthly salary and a $1,200 biweekly salary are different jobs, even though both look similar at first glance.
Interpreting the Result
The converter always computes all six frequencies from your input, so you can see the full picture at once. When comparing job offers, look at the annual figure first: it cancels out differences in how often you get paid. For freelance or consulting work, the hourly rate matters most because unpaid time (admin, marketing, downtime) is not included in it — many freelancers add a 20-30% buffer over their target hourly rate to cover those hours.
This converter calculates gross salary (before taxes and deductions). Your net pay will be lower after income tax, social security, and other deductions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply your monthly salary by 12. For example: $3,000/month × 12 = $36,000/year.
Divide your annual salary by total hours worked per year (hours/week × weeks/year). With 40h/week and 52 weeks: annual salary ÷ 2,080.
Biweekly is every 2 weeks (26 payments/year). Semi-monthly is twice a month (24 payments/year). This calculator uses the biweekly format.
With a standard 40-hour work week and 52 weeks, a year has 2,080 working hours.
This calculator is for regular base salary. Overtime is typically paid at a different rate and should be calculated separately.
