Choosing a rate

  • Reference: useful for estimates and comparisons. It does not guarantee a bank payout. Check the date beside the rate.
  • Bank: shows available quotes for the selected pair, with country and channel. Buying and selling are interpreted from the bank's perspective.
  • My quote: enter how many destination currency units you would receive for one source currency unit. Use it for an offer that is missing from the selector.

Buying and selling depend on direction

When you hand over dollars and receive quetzales, the bank buys your dollars: multiply by its buying rate. When you hand over quetzales and receive dollars, the bank sells you dollars: divide by its selling rate. Reversing the transaction does not necessarily preserve the same rate.

Illustrative example, not a current quote: with a buying price of Q7.50 and a selling price of Q8.00 per dollar, USD100 converts to Q750; Q100 converts to USD12.50, before fees.

Conversion through a common base

Destination amount = source amount × (destination units per USD ÷ source units per USD)

For a manual rate expressed directly as destination units per source unit, multiply the amount by that rate. Do not reuse a rounded displayed result as the rate for further calculations.

Sources and availability

The selector only includes quotes successfully retrieved and parsed for the selected pair. It includes sources for Guatemala, Costa Rica and Mexico; it does not cover every bank or country. Open the original publication and confirm the channel, amount and fees before exchanging money.

The checked date tells you when the source was read; it does not prove that the bank updated its offer that day. Missing publication dates are explicitly labelled. An older quote may remain visible with a warning. If your bank is missing, enter its quote manually.
